Murphy's Law?

Team Era Blog

Have you ever heard of Murphy’s Law?…

Probably not. On the odd chance that you have, you know exactly what’s coming next.

“Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.” is typically how the law is stated. Now, you may be wondering why in the world would we be talking about such a RANDOM topic?

That’s because everything DID go wrong for our first challenge!

Our first idea was rejected. Not to be bummers, we continued with a second idea, which was almost as good as the original - a charity party. We had Laurier’s awesome club, The Turret, at our disposal, as well, Cameo, one of the nicer bar/clubs at Laurier willing to do our awesome charity party.

Now as you guessed it, Murphy strikes again! Times for the venues and their costs push us away from a big, club-like, fundraiser party. We cut our losses and decide to run a guerrilla marketing event in the Laurier quad, with DJs and super sweet NESTEA® to give away.

We begin setting up our speakers, laptops, 30 some odd cases of NESTEA® and start hype on campus. After 2 hours, we were ready to roll, well… The world had other plans for us, since it started hailing all of a suddden! Our rented speakers, expensive laptop, and camera were almost all ruined. We took everything down and stored it in a residence across the quad. We pulled some strings and we received permission to set up our event in the Laurier concourse.

After another 2 hours of moving every single case of NESTEA® and all of our equipment inside, we were ready to rumble. We built even more hype within the school and played some awesome beats to drivedonations for the Sick Kids Foundation. We ended the day with many donations and several likes on our Facebook page.

What we learned from these events is simple: always have a backup plan! This lesson is transferable to all facets of life. School, work, and life in general...everything needs a backup plan!
